Fullness of God

Fullness of God: The Secret to Contentment

Scripture
John 13:517; Matthew 25:40, 45

Summary
In this passage, Jesus knows He is in the room with the man (Judas) who is about to betray Him, and He knows that very soon He will be crucified. Even though those things were on His mind, He was still determined to serve all in the room, including Judas. Jesus commands us to serve not only the poor, weak and the least “important,” He also commands His followers to serve even our betrayers. Service is produced through love, but it is through our love for our Savior Jesus Christ that we are able to serve everyone.

Questions
1. According to verse 11, what did Jesus know about His future?
2. If you had known that one of the people in the room was about to betray you, how would you have felt?
3. According to this passage, is there any sign that Jesus did not wash the feet of the person who was going to betray Him?
4. What does washing people’s feet exemplify?

Application
Our contentment (and blessing) comes through obeying Christ and living like He did. Even when people were against Him, Christ received contentment from God through serving the least of them. Christ gave the ultimate example in that; even on the Cross, He served those crucifying Him by interceding in prayer, asking forgiveness for their betrayal.

1. Name some people in your group of friends whom you can serve this week.
2. Name some better ways you can serve your family this week.

Step 6 to finding contentment: Serve the unimportant, the weak, the forgotten and the betrayers.

Prayer
Pray that God may reveal the depth of His love for you.
Pray for God to reveal to you what is holding back His love from flowing and ministering through you.
Write down five hindrances of God’s love, and pray in repentance over them.

Memory Verse
Say Proverbs 3:57 out loud four times.
